Water Quality
One of the most important factors in water quality is the source: the purer the source, the better the water. EBMUD's primary water source is Sierra Nevada snowmelt. Before the water comes to your tap, EBMUD takes many steps to ensure its quality. This includes carefully managing and protecting watershed lands and reservoirs, treating the water, sampling and analyzing for water quality, and investigating and correcting consumer concerns.
EBMUD has an extensive water quality program that protects water quality in the watersheds and reservoirs, enhances water quality through treatment and filtration, and maintains that quality through the distribution system to the tap. These efforts assures that all customers get high-quality drinking water that meets or surpasses all state and federal regulatory requirements.
