Water Pressure and Hydrant Flow Information
EBMUD is committed to providing reliable, adequate pressure and water flow for all customers. Water pressure typically ranges from about 30 to 130 pounds per square inch depending upon the elevation of a customer's service connection in a particular pressure zone. Most of EBMUD's more than 130 pressure zones include one or more treated water storage tanks. Water flow is primarily determined by the size of a customer's service connection and the water pressure at that connection.
Flow and Pressure Information for Fire Service for Commercial Buildings and Multi-Family Structures of Five or More Units
You must request water pressure and flow information for any new installation of a fire sprinkler system through our New Business Office. This includes:
- design/redesign of a fire sprinkler system or upsizing an existing fire service meter, and
- fire service for a commercial building, or
- fire service for a multi-family structure of five or more units.
View the online Fire Service Flow and Pressure Request form to request pressure and flow analysis for fire service.
The EBMUD Planning Office will conduct the hydraulic model analysis to determine adequate pressure and flow. You will be charged a fee of $317 for each hydraulic model analysis request. If you prefer to pay this fee and apply in person, please print, complete, and deliver this form to the EBMUD New Business Office at 375 11th Street, Oakland. If you need flow and pressure data for a fire service but do not meet the above criteria, you may request existing hydrant flow data at no charge (see below).
NOTE: This is not a fire service application. You must also complete the Water Service Application Packet to apply for the fire service after you obtain the flow and pressure data.
